WP: The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., National Memorial Update

The WP reports that one third of the necessary fundraising is complete, but fails to mention the controversy that arose when the late civil rights leader's family tried to require payments for the use of his name, likeness, and words.

I don't know about you, but if someone wanted to put up a monument on the National Mall to one of my dead relatives, I wouldn't be trying to extract an extortion payment. I would be doing everything possible to get the monument built before someone changed his mind.
